QUARTZSITE RALLY 2008
Our 4th "No Host - No cost" Quartzsite rally was held January 18th to 21st, 2008. This year we had in excess of 45 Treks attend this event. Quartzsite is the home of the world's largest RV Swap Meet.
Some of our members volunteered to go early and stake out a Trek area in the desert south of I-10 and west of Love's Truck Stop. This is the same area we have always used. There were campfires at night and as usual a great potluck dinner on Sat. The Yaki's whipped up some of their delicious banana waffles for the earlybirds on Friday morning and Brazel's RV provided wine for their seminar on Friday evening. Our "Thanks" also to Dr. Lorne Muth for his informative talk on Saturday evening. Although the weather was somewhat cold and windy this year, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Fall Rally - Heron Lake State Park
Sept 14 -17, 2007
Our Fall Rally was held Sept 14 -17, 2007 at Heron Lake State Park. This State Park is located about 20 miles s/o Chama, New Mexico.
24 rigs attended this event and all had a great time. Bob and Sue Horning of Tesuque, New Mexico were our hosts and everyone very much appreciated all of their efforts to make this a successful rally. Bob did a great job of putting on a slide presentation for us of the geology of New Mexico and he took some of the group on a hike of the area. Sue, along with the help of Jim and Janet Finch put on a traditional New Mexico Breakfast Burrito feast one morning that was just fantastic!!
On Sunday, a majority of the group went into Chama and spent the day riding the Cumbres & Toltec scenic railroad. It was a great day with lots of beautiful scenery.
We always seem to have at least a few new Trekkers at our rallys and we all had fun sharing our experiences with the "newbies" and welcoming them to our Trekking community.
SUMMER RALLY - TORREY, UTAH
June 29 – July 2, 2007
Bill and Fran Joy of Ogden, Utah hosted this summer rally in scenic south central Utah. 28 rigs gathered at Wonderland R.V. Resort, which is located at the intersection of Hwy 12 and Hwy 24. This was a full service R.V. park at 7000' elevation, and was about 10 minutes from spectacular Capitol Reef National Park and many of us enjoyed the scenic drives and some 4-wheeling thru the countryside.
Meals during this event were fabulous. Friday evening was a soup n' cornbread welcome dinner. Saturday nite we had an old fashioned Texas style BBQ which included BBQ'ed brisket, beans and coleslaw. Sunday nite was a potluck dinner. Breakfasts were also lots of fun. On Saturday morning many of us went into the small town of Torrey and supported the Boy Scout pancake breakfast. On Sunday morning Mike and Madeline Yaki made their now famous "banana waffles" for everyone. On Monday morning before everyone departed for home, the guys cooked a great scrambled eggs and homemade sausage breakfast for all.
During this event we did something a little different. Usually the guys have a "Trek Tech" session and this one was moderated by Dave Minsberg. During this time, the gals gathered separately and we had our own "Gal's Trek Tech" session. We had a roundtable discussion and shared lots of hints and ideas with each other.
Also during the weekend, we had a Trek Open House and those who had something to share turned their porch light on.
We had some new Trekkers at this event and we're sure we sent them away with lots of ideas on how to spend $$$ on their rigs.
Our "THANKS" to Bill and Fran Joy for a very successful rally. Everyone who attended certainly appreciates all of the organization and preparatory work they did to ensure everyone had a great time!
QUARTZSITE RALLY 2007
Our 3 rd “No Host” “No Cost” Quartzsite rally was January 18th to 22 nd, 2007. We had in excess of 60 Treks attend this event. Quartzsite is the home of the world's largest RV Swap Meet.
Despite some cold, wintery weather this year, all seemed to have a good time exploring all of the flea markets of Quartzsite and most everyone came back to camp with some kind of treasure.
Our "thanks" to John & Kalyn Knollmiller for organizing this event each year. We were treated to Banana Waffles, courtesy of Mike & Madeline Yaki one morning and there was a great pot-luck dinner from which no one walked away hungry.
Around the campfire Saturday night, Dr. Lorne Muth, an optomitrist from Redlands, CA. gave us some great information on adult eye care. Bill Joy also answered questions about our upcoming rally in Torrey, Utah.
Fall
Rally – Sept. 15-16-17, 2006
Union Valley Reservoir –North of Hwy 50
El Dorado County, CA
Our Fall Rally, hosted by Hans Baumann and Heide Kingsbury of Citrus Heights,
CA was held in the El Dorado National Forest at Union Valley Reservoir.
This was off of Highway 50 between Placerville and South Lake Tahoe in Northern
California.
We began our weekend on Friday nite with a soup n' salad welcome which included greetings from Hans & Heide. They gave us the agenda for the weekend. On Saturday we spent the entire day in GRK Valley and had a fabulous time. Heide & Hans, along with some help from club members had prepared a traditional Oktoberfest celebration that was enjoyed by all. On Sunday morning the guys all helped cook up breakfast for everyone and the weekend was concluded with a great bonfire and potluck on Sunday evening.
Our thanks to Hans and Heide for all of their hard work to put this rally together. It certainly will be remembered by all 28 rigs who attended!!
